The Council of State and Territorial Epidemiologists\u2019 (CSTE) Electronic Health Information<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>(<\/span>EHI) Access<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Toolkit (<\/span>herein<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>referred to as the Toolkit) is designed to provide\u00a0<\/span><\/span>public health authorities (<\/span>PHAs<\/span>)<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>with best practices for accessing EHI directly from HCPs and facilities\u2019 medical record systems to\u00a0<\/span><\/span>utilize<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>for public health surveillance and investigation. This Toolkit is intended to improve access to EHI, which may include data from medical records, laboratory results, treatment plans, immunization records, and other\u00a0<\/span><\/span>important information<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>used by PHAs for public health surveillance, case follow-up, and outbreak investigation. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The Toolkit provides guidance, tools, and resources featuring real examples of PHA-based activities for epidemiologists\u00a0<\/span><\/span>and other public health professionals\u00a0<\/span><\/span>seeking<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>to gain\u00a0<\/span><\/span>timely<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>access to EHI to conduct effective disease monitoring\u00a0<\/span><\/span>and response<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>activities in their communities.
